Whistle Samples

The Dixie's whistle was installed when the Dixie was built in 1929. The whistle had been in use aboard the first Dixie since about 1918. The whistle produces an authentic "steam whistle" sound, but with a wider octave range. It was manufactured by the Gabriel Horn Company of Cleveland, Ohio.

Audio File #1 (54kb) Tag Huffman's departure whistle was heard whenever the Dixie left port (1960-1980). The tradition of using this signature whistle (2 short, 1 long, and 1 short) was carried-on by Capt. Steve Huffman from 1983 to 1986.

Music Samples

From the 1950's through 1980, Webster Lake residents and Dixie patrons could hear a special mix of music as the Dixie toured the lake. The Dixie still plays nostalgic music, but the earlier music is arguably the most recognized by Webster Lake natives.
